The concept of the "The Great Tea Road" has been widely used since 2013. Its development has undergone a dynamic process of transformation, from historical research to academic construction, ultimately evolving into a cross-national cultural heritage. From the early years of China’s reform and opening up to the early 1990s, efforts were made to organize oral materials and clarify historical facts, accumulating a substantial body of important documentary sources. During this period, some scholars introduced the concepts of the "Tea Road" and the "Zhang-Ku Road", shifting the focus of research from trade history and foreign relations to cultural routes, thus reflecting a growing sense of historical consciousness. Beginning in the 1990s, the concept of the "Tea Road" shifted from a general term to a specific one, used to refer to the nearly three-hundred-year-long tea trade route between China, Mongolia, and Russia. In 2013, during a speech in Moscow, President Xi Jinping used the term "The Great Tea Road" to replace previous designations such as the "Tea Road" and "Thousands of Miles Tea Road." Since then, the cultural heritage practices associated with the The Great Tea Road have become increasingly widespread and profound, achieving numerous significant results. The realization of these threefold transformations is attributed to changes in the era, discourse, and other aspects, as well as a solid historical foundation, continuous refinement of the concept, and public enthusiasm for heritage participation. The time for the The Great Tea Road to be recognized as a World Cultural Heritage may soon arrive.
