Abstract:
Mr. Yi Fu-ping’s Contract Documents collected by Wanzhuanlou has collected nearly 1600 academically valuable contract documents dated from the fifth year of the Chongzhen period of Ming Dynasty (1631A.D.)to early years of new China mainly in Shandong Province. However, the titles of some contract documents in the book still remains a small amount of literal errors and defects, which can be categorized into five types: errors due to the not understanding the writing patterns of contract documents, errors due to lack of calligraphic knowledge, unrecognized characters or symbols, misreading or misunderstanding due to similar structures of different characters, and false usage of the traditional and simplified Chinese characters. Referring to the dictionaries, calligraphy and other comparable contract documents since the Song and Yuan dynasties, these five types of literal errors and defects have been collated and interpreted with the aim of restoring the original appearance of the contract documents and removing the literal barriers for the historical study of the book.
